About Us

L’Arche Greater Vancouver, (LGV), part of an International organization, founded in France in 1964 by Jean Vanier, the son of Canadian Governor-General George and Mrs. Pauline Vanier, began in response to the needs of people with developmental disabilities to find a valid place in society. L’Arche Greater Vancouver, situated in South Burnaby, operates 6 homes that support 25 men and women with developmental disabilities and two day programs. The day program provides educational, networking and outreach opportunities. The second program, L’Arche Wood Products is a social enterprise day program involving 15 adult men and women with developmental disabilities (6 from the external community who do not live in our homes) in the manufacture of modular pine furniture. This day program provides an exceptional opportunity for adults with developmental disabilities to learn woodworking, social adjustment life-skills, develop self-esteem and a sense of dignity.
