About Us

The Commission on Economic Opportunity for the Greater Capital Region (CEO) is a not for profit organization located in Troy, NY. CEO was established in 1965 as a part of a larger system of Community Action Agencies throughout New York State and across the nation. Community Action Agencies are independent nonprofit private and public organizations established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964.

CEO is an "umbrella" agency that provides the overall leadership, policy guidance, coordination, and support necessary to successfully deliver a wide range of human services. The agency’s mission is to preserve and advance the self-sufficiency, well-being, and growth of individuals, children, and families through education, guidance and resources.

The programs provided by CEO are designed to empower individuals and families to build self-sufficiency in all areas of life and rise out of poverty. The agency is a major force in improving the lives of 10,000 economically disadvantaged Rensselaer County families annually through an array of educational, social/emotional, emergency, concrete, and psychological services.
