About Us

The college is a nationally recognized leader in educator preparation, special education, counseling, and school leadership and is home to 3 schools and 9 centers engaged in groundbreaking research.

Our School of Education— one of the largest and most comprehensive in Virginia—is the alma mater of one-third of teachers and administrators in Northern Virginia’s world-class school systems. Each year more than 3,000 graduate students enroll in our innovative academic programs, which include degree and certificate options in areas such as advanced study for teachers and school leaders, instructional design and technology, and education policy.  Our renowned PhD in education program offers a wide range of specializations and is among the largest in the country.


The School of Kinesiology offers exceptional academic programs dedicated to promoting optimal health and enhancing the quality of life through physical activity. The school offers programs in athletic training, kinesiology, and a kinesiology concentration within the PhD program.  

Our School of Sport, Recreation, and Tourism Management offers some of the university’s most dynamic, hands-on graduate programs, including sport and recreation studies. Students pursuing degrees in these areas are well prepared to enter careers in fields that are rapidly growing in popularity and demand.
