About Us

Founded in 1988 by the late Robert Hoey, World Youth International is one of Australia's leading not-for-profit international development organisations and a signatory to the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID). With a head office located in Adelaide, the organisation has facilitated meaningful volunteering opportunities for more than 3,000 Australians of all ages, working in some of the world's poorest communities for 25 years.

World Youth International offers a range of overseas volunteer programs for people over the age of 18 to live and work in developing countries including Kenya, Nepal and Peru. Participants travel as a team on our two key programs, the Overseas Action Program (OAP) and Nurses in Action (NIA) program. OAP volunteers work on community-led, construction-based development projects while qualified NIA participants share their skills via targeted health placements.

At the very heart of World Youth's mission is a commitment to community-led, sustainable projects and placements. In essence, this means providing a 'hand up', not a 'hand out'.
