Volunteers of America (MA)

Volunteers of America (MA) is one the largest human service organizations in the country offering services that people need to make positive changes in their lives. Here in Massachusetts, we provide services to elders youth-at-risk and adults recovering from substance abuse in and around the Boston area. Volunteers of America is also one of the nation's most efficient charities with 88 cents of every dollar spent going directly into programs and services. Our staff is committed to a comprehensive mission to serve the whole person with programs designed not only to treat but to rehabilitate. We help those most in need, especially the vunerable, the hardest to serve and those facing multiple challenges.

Impact your community by applying your special talents to volunteer activities with Volunteers of America. Teaching opportunities include: basic computer literacy, arts and crafts, parenting techniques, anger management, theater, creative writing, personal finance and career building skills. We have additional needs for general tutors, hair stylists, manicurists, friendly visits, musical performers and whatever it is you do best.

We invite our volunteers to an orientation of our organization held at our home office in Jamaica Plain. During that time we explain our nine human service programs and try to learn how a we can work with our volunteers. We ask each volunteer to complete a Criminal Record Check before they begin volunteering at our agency.
