About Us

The Arab Film and Media Institute (AFMI) is a unique ecosystem to find, nurture, connect, and develop Arab film and media projects and empower local Arab talent to tell their communities’ stories in their own voices.

The Arab Film and Media Institute (AFMI) seeks to transform the way people see the world through Arab films. AFMI is built upon four main pillars:

  • The Arab Film Festival, with expanded curated screenings, short film programs, and special events and showcases.
  • Education Program, providing films and content along with curricula to high schools and colleges to fight stereotypes and foster understanding of Arab experiences.
  • Training and Support for Filmmakers, including a Filmmaker in Residence, Master Classes and Fiscal Sponsorship
  • AFMI Original Content, to produce and support new content

AFMI launched in 2017. First phase of the programming will be centered on the Education Program in Los Angeles and San Francisco, expanding to more cities nationally in 2018.
