About Us

The mission of CMA is to introduce children and their families to the transformative power of the arts by providing opportunities to make art side-by-side with working artists.  CMA is committed to promoting access to the arts for all children regardless of ability or socioeconomic status.

CMA has robust, free Community Programs which make our high-quality arts education more broadly accessible. Last year, CMA served over 135,000 visitors, 43,402 free of charge.

CMA’s core programming consists of four distinct initiatives: (1) thematic exhibitions of artwork by world-class contemporary artists; (2) on-site public programming with interactive art stations and artist-led workshops for children; as well as enrollment-based children’s art classes and camps; (3) school and community outreach programs that take place at CMA and throughout New York City providing free arts education to underserved children; and (4) a permanent collection of 2,000 pieces of children’s art, dating back more than 80 years and sourced from over 50 different countries, that is regularly exhibited.
