  • Mission

Our mission is to fight against veteran suicide by addressing the transitional stresses that so many of our nation’s heroes face. We provide veterans with the community, purpose, and certainty they need to successfully transition into civilian life. Through education, training, and certification, we prepare them for meaningful careers in the U.S. manufacturing sector, which is in urgent need of skilled talent.

    About Us

Unturning Steel was founded in honor of MAJ Sean P. Leahy, USMC, and the 125,000+ veterans lost to suicide since 2001. We are dedicated to helping military families find stability, purpose, and community in the civilian world.

As a nonprofit uniting U.S. manufacturing and military communities, we bridge the gap between transitioning service members and American industry. Our programs focus on workforce training, job placement, and industry partnerships through DoD SkillBridge and leading manufacturers.

Through our partnership with the University of Tennessee’s Reliability & Maintainability Center (RMC), we help veterans earn industry-recognized certifications in reliability, maintenance, and asset management. These credentials prepare them for high-demand careers in industrial maintenance, reliability engineering, and advanced manufacturing.

UTS has been recognized with the Best Cultural Innovation Award by Efficient Plant and will place 36 trained service members into jobs in 2025. We partner with top industry leaders and training institutions to strengthen U.S. manufacturing.
