L'Arche is an international organization with communities all over the world. We have a unique model of housing where people with and without developmental disabilities live together. The people with developmental disabilities are the ones who guide the ethos of the home, they are the ones who determine what art, goes on the wall, how we celebrate, what time dinner is at, etc. We use the term "core member" to refer to people with developmental disabilities in our communities.
In L'Arche Hamilton we are extra fortunate because we have an arts studio called "Creative Hands Studio" where people with developmental disabilities can go during the week to engage in a variety of recreation activities such as; candle making, pottery, painting, drawing, knitting, interactive music therapy and more!
L'Arche Hamilton also has a social enterprise cafe called "Inclusion Coffeehouse" where people with and without disabilities volunteer together to make baked goods, serve coffee, engage with neighbours and host events.
