  • Mission

Chestnut Revival is a new nonprofit dedicated to restoring the American chestnut — once the most important hardwood in the eastern U.S. — to its native range, starting in New Hampshire. We are partnering with the American Chestnut Foundation and using blight-resistant transgenic and hybrid trees to bring this iconic species back to our forests for wildlife, timber, carbon sequestration, and cultural heritage.

    About Us

We are recruiting 3–5 founding board members with serious expertise in one or more of the following areas:

      • Nonprofit governance, fundraising, or grant-writing (especially federal/USDA, NSF, or environmental foundation grants)
      • Environmental conservation, reforestation, or land-trust experience
      • Botany, forestry, plant pathology, or tree genetics (experience with American chestnut or similar restoration projects is a huge plus)
      • Finance, legal (nonprofit law), or marketing/communications

Prior board experience is strongly preferred but not required if you bring deep subject-matter expertise. What You’ll Do:

      • Help shape strategy and secure the organization’s first major grants in 2026–2027
      • Provide guidance on scientific partnerships, land-access agreements, and outreach
      • Attend 4 quarterly board meetings per year (90 minutes) and occasional committee work

    Cause Areas Include
