About Us

CIBBOWS is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to being the very best New York Cityresource for open water swimmers. We host weekly, year-round training swims at Coney Island and Brighton Beach. We advocate improving the environment of New York Harbor, and promoting public access to its waters; mutually-strengthening partnerships with like-minded organizations; and affordable races, so that more people can enjoy swimming events at our beaches.

Since 2005, CIBBOWS, the only not-for-profit organizer of open water swim races in New York City, has presented a yearly series of fun and challenging ocean races including one-mile, long-distance and cold-water events. We've hosted regional and national championships for US Masters Swimming that attract swimmers from around the nation. Our fundraising helps keep race costs to a minimum, and contributes to our dream of a beachfront facility to serve as a home for open-water swimming on the East Coast.

CIBBOWS is an ever-growing, vibrant community that has supported many swim aspirations, both big and small. CIBBOWS has one of the largest group of experienced marathon and extreme cold-water swimmers in the world. Many of these elite athletes have chosen to give back by mentoring fellow ocean swimmers, both friend and first-timer alike. Whether guiding new swimmers, lending advice and experience to English Channel hopefuls, or offering a warm cup of tea on a cold winter day, CIBBOWS is a tight-knit group that offers a helping hand, both in the water and out.

"CIBBOWS and The Atlantic Ocean welcome all swimmers."
