    Description

Sankofa: The Ghana Children's Charitable Foundation was founded in August of 2009 as a grassroots response to the educational crisis confronting the people in the village of Hohoe. Sankofa was created to address the lack of proper educational facilities, resources, and techniques in Hohoe.

Sankofa is a registered 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. The directors are located in different areas of the United States--California, Illinois, and Florida.

    History

In the summer of 2009, four volunteers from across the United States traveled to Hohoe, Ghana to live and volunteer as teachers in schools and as caregivers to orphans. Conversations about the lack of quality education and resources in town resulted in strategic partnerships and strong relationships being formed with individuals and organizations in the Hohoe community. With a strong sense that their work in Ghana was not complete, the four volunteers returned home to the United States and created Sankofa: The Ghana Children's Charitable Foundation.
