Resettlement Legal Aid Project

About Us

Resettlement Legal Aid Project (RLAP) provides legal aid and human care services to refugees in Egypt. This includes resettlement legal assistance, emergency protection referrals, risk-assessment counsel, psychiatric assistance, medical care referrals, social work assistance—and case advocacy with relevant organizations for all of these services. As part of community self-help efforts, we also provide, on a rolling-basis, workshops on refugee rights and services in Egypt.

Approximately 90 percent of RLAP’s clientele are Iraqis seeking asylum from Iraq’s communal and sectarian violence. RLAP is predominantly staffed by unpaid legal, community, and psych-social interns, in addition to three full-time staff members, two part-time protection officers, and four part-time contracted translators.
