Mad River Mentoring (MRM) was founded in 2023 by a dedicated advisory board to address a community-based mentoring need in the rural Mad River Valley. As the sole community-based mentoring program serving HUUSD communities, MRM receives valuable technical support from MENTOR Vermont and operates under the umbrella of Open Hearth, a
501(c)3 organization serving as our fiscal agent. Daily operations are managed by the program manager, with advisory board oversight. MRM's mission is to enhance the lives of local youth by nurturing a stronger sense of belonging and well-being through meaningful mentoring relationships. Our program launch has been successful.
We secured funding from various sources including local businesses, private donors, and grants. This financial support has facilitated the development of a website, recruitment events, marketing materials, the hiring of a part-time program manager, and on-boarding of adult and youth participants. We have established strong partnerships with schools in the HUUSD and other youth-serving agencies within our community, resulting in a growing number of referrals. We currently have 9 mentoring pairs and 4 young people waiting to be matched with a mentor.
