    With a diverse population of over 236,578, Durham is the fourth largest city in N.C., and located in Durham County. Known both as the “City of Medicine” and “Bull City, ” Durham is part of the Research Triangle region, a vibrant metropolitan area of more than 1.7 million people which includes numerous industries and more than a dozen colleges and universities. Durham has a reputation for encouraging entrepreneurs and its downtown has experienced a renaissance. Located halfway between the Great Smoky Mountains and the beaches of the Atlantic, Durham is home to over 300 restaurants, more than 40 annual festivals, Duke and North Carolina Central universities, Durham Bulls Triple-A baseball, Durham Performing Arts Center, art and science museums, and world-class medical facilities.
