About Us

Founded in 1984, Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN) is a District of Columbia nonprofit corporation based in Chicago, Illinois. RMN is a Christian and United Methodist organization that leads a growing movement of United Methodist individuals, congregations, campus ministries, and other groups working for the full participation of all people in The United Methodist Church.

Mission and Vision

RMN mobilizes United Methodists of all sexual orientations and gender identities to transform our Church and world into the full expression of Christ’s inclusive love. RMN envisions a renewed and vibrant Wesleyan movement that is biblically and theologically centered. As committed disciples of Jesus Christ, RMN strives to transform the world by living out the Gospel’s teachings of grace, love, justice, and inclusion for all of God’s children.

RMN is at the forefront of ecumenical faith organizing for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) equality. RMN pursues its goals in collaboration with faith-based and secular organizers who are at the intersections of both oppression and privilege. Grounding its ministry in the Wesleyan quadrilateral of scripture, tradition, reason, and experience, and balancing both personal and social holiness, RMN stands at the center of United Methodism in freeing individuals, congregations, and the denomination itself from anti-inclusion discrimination.

Core Activities

The organization is built on a relational organizing approach of movement building and transformational change. Utilizing research and proven methodologies, RMN pursues best practices in communications and technologies to create safe sanctuaries and just policies for LGBTQ United Methodists, their families, and friends.

RMN’s primary activities include grassroots organizing with individuals and United Methodist congregations and communities to develop formal statements of inclusion; advocacy and public education to change the policies of The United Methodist Church; media and communications to disseminate a message of inclusion and the moral equality of LGBTQ people in the Church and society; as well as consulting with church agencies, churches, groups, and individuals on how to promote LGBTQ-inclusive faith communities.
