Netiya

About Us

NETIYA is a food and faith network that cultivates gardens on unused land at faith-based institutions to grow and tithe nutritious food. Netiya fosters self-reliance and stewardship to lead Angelenos of all faiths toward greater access to food worthy of a blessing. The network consists of 42-institutions that advance urban agriculture through our churches, mosques, and synagogues as well as faith-based schools in Los Angeles. NETIYA strives to grow community food security to seed a more just and resilient food system.

NETIYA plants Just Gardens to grow food by stewarding the land at our institutions. Our aim is to make locally-grown produce more accessible to congregants and to neighbors in under-served communities. Produce harvested from all NETIYA gardens goes through a reverse tithing – 90% to be donated, 10% for the institution. NETIYA runs a collaborative city-wide Council of liaisons from the network institutions. This body holds meetings to organize public events, and to prepare educational materials to help individuals and communities make informed, ethical and nutritious food choices. NETIYA encourages our members to place our combined purchasing power behind ethical farms, ranchers, fisheries, and grocers – and to make it affordable for our partners in food deserts to access high quality, fresh produce that is locally-grown.
