About Us

The Field offers programs that help independent performing artists create new artwork, manage their careers, and develop long-range strategies for sustaining a life in the arts. We work with directors, choreographers, producers, playwrights, composers, performance artists and everyone in between. Through workshops, residencies, performance opportunities, consultations, fiscal sponsorship and a resource center, we provide comprehensive programming on a completely non-curated basis. This means everything we do is open to artists from all aesthetic viewpoints and levels of development. Our priority is to create a climate where experimentation, risk-taking, and originality are championed, and where the broadest range of voices are included.

Please see our INTERNSHIP and VOLUNTEER listings for current opportunties in The Field, as we are always seeking interns to assist with the daily operations of this major arts service organization. We have a small staff of performing artists and interns are an important part of this friendly office community. Join us to become an active contributor to Field projects and gain familiarity with all aspects of the organization through contact with both Field staff members and other interns.

Although our internships are unpaid, interns receive individualized mentorship from Field staff and access to many of our career-based programs. For example, monthly, one-on-one consultations provide a forum for interns to discuss their art projects and/or career paths; where interns may request feedback on written materials, project planning, and fundraising. Fees for many Career Workshops at The Field are waived for interns who seek to build their arts management skills through related topics.
