  • About Us

Downtown Brooklyn is one of New York City’s most concentrated hubs of cultural activity. The backbone of this creative community is a diverse and dynamic non-profit arts sector that includes several large and well-established institutions, many small and mid-sized art and performance venues, as well as numerous dance, theater, and music companies, high-quality arts education and artist residency programs, art service organizations, and other culturally-focused entities.

Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance (DBAA) was founded in 2010 to connect Downtown Brooklyn’s non-profit cultural organizations to enable collaboration, share information, facilitate joint advocacy, and to discuss and address issues affecting artist communities and cultural organizations in the area. Founded by an initial cohort of 12 organizations, DBAA incorporated in 2017 with 39 organizational members and has since grown to include 60+ organizations that span the visual and performing arts, literature, film and media. In addition to initiatives fostering close ties among staff at local organizations and between arts and civic leaders, DBAA’s programming includes an annual series of professional development trainings aimed at strengthening the ability of arts professionals to sustain and grow their organizations, forge new paradigms for collaboration, and increase impact in the communities they serve.
