    About MeckEd

MeckEd is an independent, nonpartisan nonprofit and champion for excellent public education for all children in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS). MeckEd was created in 2006 as a result of a merger of four nonprofit, educational entities in Mecklenburg County. As a trusted source of information for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community, CMS leadership, and the CMS Board of Education, MeckEd recognizes a well-informed and engaged community is essential to a public education system that graduates students who are college- and career-ready. MeckEd connects parents, teachers, CMS, civic and faith-based organizations, community leaders, businesses, and other stakeholders in support of public education.

    MeckEd’s Role

We Inform the Community. MeckEd informs the community about the critical issues facing local public education through its weekly education e-Newsletter, virtual resource center, social media, and various information campaigns regarding timely education topics—such as the Board of Education elections and CMS budget.

We Engage the Community. MeckEd engages the community through several community-wide events, such as Teachers of Excellence, MeckEd’s Annual Community Breakfast, and Community Conversations, as well as online forums.

We Create Pathways For Student Success. Through the MeckEd Career Pathways Program, MeckEd informs students, who want to explore other options beyond a traditional four-year degree, about the numerous pathways toward 21st-century careers and places students in internships, apprenticeships, and workplace learning opportunities, creating coherent pathways for student success.
