About Us

Machik is a non-profit whose mission is to grow a global community committed to a stronger future for Tibet. Founded in 1998, Machik began with the Chungba Primary & Middle Schools which are now an exceptional model for mother-tongue based education for rural communities inside Tibet. Founded on a core commitment to the ideals of service and engagement, Machik has developed new opportunities for education, capacity-building, and innovation on the Tibetan plateau. Given the changing and challenging conditions in Tibet, Machik’s work has evolved to meet the needs of Tibetan communities in seeking ways to build a stronger and more sustainable future for Tibet.

Machik currently works in the three areas of civic engagement, social innovation and gender equity. Some of our current programs include Machik Weekend, Global Leap Program, Global Innovation Fellowship, Machik Khabda, Machik Gender Summit and Machik Community Screenings.
