  • Mission

SVA believes that abuse results from the unequal distribution of power. Abuse is a learned behavior whereby the abusers gain power and control over their victims. It encompasses emotional, physical, sexual, economic, and political aspects of life among others, crossing over all cultures, classes, ages and genders.

    About Us

SVA was created in 1982 in response to domestic violence impacting women in rural Scott and Carver Counties. Since then, it has evolved into an organization that serves ALL victims of domestic violence and intersecting crimes, regardless of gender, age, race, sexual orientation, economic status, national origin, ethnicity, disability, religion or creed. SVABW seeks to provide a case management approach to assisting clients, offering support, resources, and advocacy. Volunteers assist with areas to include the crisis line, support group facilitation and child care. In addition, SVABW has an in-house visitation center to assist with supervised visitation and bonding between non-custodial parents and their children. Other programs include jail support groups, partnering with legal services and other professional organizations to assist clients, and court advocacy.
