About Us

Founded in 1966, the Israel Family Planning Association (Open Door) is the leading nonprofit in Israel promoting sexual health rights and is the exclusive Israeli representative and full member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). Open Door supports those exercising their right to sexual health by promoting family planning and improving availability of quality sexual health services to marginalized communities in Israel. Through counseling services, training programs, outreach, and policy work, Open Door empowers vulnerable communities in Israel to take charge of their sexual health by providing them with the necessary resources to make their own economic, social, and political decisions. Open Door operates both in physical spaces and virtually to create an environment that is open and accessible to everyone, regardless of gender, religion, age, ethnicity, nationality, or disability. Through our national network of 12 centers for teenagers and young adults, we offer counseling on a range of topics including adolescence, relationships, the right to love and to be loved, intimacy, violence prevention, and healthy and responsible sexual behavior. Our approach is unique in that we discuss healthy aspects of sexuality in addition to how to prevent harmful situations. Our services are provided in person through private and confidential meetings as well as by phone or online and can be customized to fit cultural and linguistic needs. Additionally, we offer educational modules in schools for at-risk youth in addition to workshops, lectures, and seminars to promote gender equality and healthy sexuality. Our national training program certifies educators in sexuality, sexual health, and intimacy, and is the nation’s leading professional program on such topics. On a policy level, Open Door advocates for improved SRHR legislation, policies, and practices. Open Door's work has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the best preventative services for youth in the world.
