HHI works with community partners to build a just and sustainable food system.

    About Us

The Hall Hunger Initiative (HHI) was created in 2015 in response to increasing food insecurity in Dayton, Ohio. Founded by Tony Hall, former member of congress and UN Ambassador for Food and Agriculture Organization, ending hunger has been at the forefront of Ambassador Hall’s life mission. In his 22 years in Congress, he focused on fighting hunger in America and around the world. He demonstrated a deep personal commitment by fasting for 22 days to call attention to hunger. As a result, the World Bank invested $100 million to reduce hunger.

Our organization’s regional efforts reflect Ambassador Hall’s legacy of bringing people together to support a universal goal: building better food systems to end hunger in our community. Today, our organization makes it our mission to work with community partners to build a just and sustainable food system. We imagine a community where equity is inherent in our food system. This looks like:

    • Access to the food you choose,
    • Justice and respect for workers,
    • Thriving food economy,
    • Climate smart agriculture
