Winneba United FC
Winneba United FC is a community-based football program that has its roots in the internationally recognized NGO Challenging Heights. Challenging Heights promotes youth and family empowerment and children’s rights to education and freedom from forced labour in Ghana. It was founded by Senior James Kofi Annan, himself a survivor of seven years of child labour on Lake Volta (http://challengingheights.org/about-us/).
For many years, football has been an integral part of Challenging Heights’ work with children and youth in Winneba, Ghana. Recently, the decision was made to give the Challenging Heights football program to the community – a program for the people and by the people.
The re-christened Winneba United FC will continue to use sport to promote education and child rights, reduce poverty and vulnerability to exploitation, and improve livelihoods, with the added goal of fostering peace and unity in Winneba and the surrounding communities.
With these lofty goals in mind, WUFC seeks to recruit talented, hard-working individuals who have a passion for sports, child rights, education, and development. “United as One!” we will use football as a platform to mobilize the strengths and abilities of the people of Winneba and its environs.
