Child Education Center

About Us

Child Education Center is a Reggio-inspired learning community that believes in the transformative power of relationships for impactful, high quality educational experiences. Our playwork is child-initiated and teacher-framed, with parents resourced as the child's first, and most important, educator. Open-ended inquiry drives the learning process, with activities that are hands-on and sensory-rich, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach to constructivist education.

CEC is a non-profit, 501(c)3 tax exempt corporation. Programs are licensed by the State of California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing; and developed and managed by the Executive Director, who works with a parent-elected Board of Directors to formulate CEC policy. Additionally, the school enlists the support and involvement of our families who contribute their time and energy to making CEC a dynamic learning community through monthly parent participation.

CEC currently serves 70 to 90 children ages 6 weeks to 6 years with a staff of 24. Our teaching team is dedicated, loving and trained. Teachers are selected, screened and retained on the basis of their commitment to quality care and education for young children.

CEC is located one block south of University Avenue, and three blocks west of Sacramento Street. The North Berkeley BART station is six blocks away, and several AC Transit lines are one block away on University Avenue. There is off street parking available.
