Meals on Wheels South Texas has been serving meals from our Murray Street location since 1979.
We are a home-delivered meal service at heart but much more than a meal in practice. Our organization serves as a point of social connection; we serve?lunch and facilitate activites at our Connection?Café; we provide services like pet assistance,?library materials delivery, and local transportation; and we partner with local and national organizations to reach ever more seniors with ever more services.
One of the biggest risks to older adult independence is malnutrition, which can lead to heightened risk of falls, catastrophic injuries, infection, hospitalization, and death following a medical event.
Loneliness is at epidemic levels nationwide, but it hits homebound older adults especially hard. Socially isolated seniors face additional heightened risks compared to their peers: high blood pressure, obesity, anxiety, depression, cognitive decline, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Our services seek to remedy those risks and enable continued independent thriving. One delivery at a time, we are working to make our community an ever better place to grow old.
