  • About Us

Since 2005, the Seattle Urban League Young Professional Chapter (SULYP) has supported emerging local leaders by providing opportunities for personal and professional development, networking, volunteering and leadership.

As one component of the National Urban League, Young Professional Chapters across the country emphasize five key areas of empowerment: education and youth; economic; health and quality of life; civic engagement and leadership; and civil rights and racial justice. Signature events include workshops and seminars such as the Annual Leadership Summit and African-American Legislative Day, in which SULYP members head to Olympia, WA to lobby state legislators.

SULYP, which was realized through the vision of three diligent young professionals — Jeanette James, Gina Moore Saunders and Angela Brooks — functions under the auspices of its local affiliate, the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle (ULMS). Celebrating 80 years of service in our region, ULMS and President and CEO James Kelly strive to empower, enable, and assist African-Americans, other people of color and the disadvantaged in achieving self-sufficiency.

National Urban League of Young Professionals

The National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP) is a National Urban League volunteer auxiliary that targets young professionals ages 21-40 to empower their communities and change lives through the Urban League Movement. Our mission is to support the Urban League Movement through our volunteerism, philanthropy and membership development. NULYP started off with people looking for an opportunity to make a difference. Your opportunity starts now. There is never a more urgent time for people of your talent, drive and compassion to join this Movement as a Young Professional.

If you’re ready to make a difference, contribute to the progress of achieving equality, develop as a person, professional and leader, then make that move and GET EMPOWERED. Your presence will definitely Empower Communities and Change Lives.
