About Us

The Institute for Dispute Resolution is a Nigerian based nationally respected not for profit NGO established in 1999 to promote, encourage and expedite conflict resolution, resolution, management and prevention. Its mission is to advance peaceful, effective, meaningful and rancour free conflict resolution. To fulfill its mission the institute is engaged in an integrated agenda of problem solving, research and development, education and training, alternative dispute resolution(ADR) advocacy, conflict prevention, management and resolution. IDR's focus is primarily the Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS) with particular reference on Nigerian and with a major emphasis on the South-South/Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Some IDR members are professional mediators working in private practice, court-sponsored programmes, family mediation or community mediation programmes. Others teach conflict resolution at workshops, seminars, conferences and schools. IDR is the National Headquarters for Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) Network, Nigeria, a coalition of over 40 individuals and civil society organisations involved in the campaign against arms proliferation in Nigeria and its neighbouring West African States. Campaign Against Arms Trade is a broad coalition of groups and individuals involved in the eradication of small arms and light weapons(SALW). Its main objective is to campaign against the proliferation of SALW in Nigeria with particular emphasis on the Niger Delta region. It is as well involved in campaigning against the manufacture, production and distribution of SALW in the West Africa region. Also CAAT is working for the reduction and ultimate abolition of international arms trade together with gradual and progressive demiliritarisation within arms-producing countries
