Ready Set Read
- Los Angeles
Ready, Set, Read! helps children from socio-economically disadvantaged communities become readers by training their parents to read aloud to them. Partnering with preschools and kindergarten programs, we donate classroom lending libraries and teach parents how to share books with their children at home. By involving parents in their children's literacy development, we pave the way for future reading and educational success.
We are a free resource for teachers to encourage home reading.
Ready, Set, Read! makes home reading a fun and easy experience for families of preschoolers by bringing books and training directly to their children's classrooms.
Who we serve
Our efforts are focused on families and schools in Los Angeles county.
What we do
We collect new and gently used English and Spanish language preschool books from a variety of donor sources. We assemble them into lending libraries books and provide them to selected preschool and kindergarten teachers, along with a one-hour read-aloud workshop for parents. Our workshop includes a book and hand outs for each parent who attends. Parents and teachers are surveyed to track the library's impact on home reading.
