  • Mission

The mission of the British Wireless for the Blind Fund (BWBF) is to keep people living with sight loss connected by providing free, accessible audio equipment and services across the UK.

In practical terms, BWBF exists to:

    • Improve quality of life for blind and partially sighted people by reducing isolation and loneliness
    • Provide free, easy‑to‑use audio devices and apps, such as adapted radios, smart speakers, and audiobook players
    • Ensure access to information, entertainment, and companionship through audio, regardless of financial circumstances
    • Support people long‑term, including repair or replacement of devices when needed

BWBF describes its purpose as unlocking “a world of audio content for people living with sight loss” and helping people stay connected, curious, and engaged with the world

    About Us

The British Wireless for the Blind Fund (BWBF) is a UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of people living with sight loss by helping them stay connected, informed, and less isolated through accessible audio technology.

Founded in 1928, BWBF has nearly a century of experience supporting blind and partially sighted people. We provide free, easy‑to‑use audio devices and apps, such as adapted radios, smart speakers, audiobook players, and accessible radio apps, to people who may otherwise be unable to afford them. Our devices are designed specifically for users with little or no sight, featuring tactile controls and voice‑led navigation

We work with individuals of all ages across the UK, particularly those experiencing financial hardship, loneliness, or isolation as a result of sight loss. Audio access can be life‑changing—offering companionship, entertainment, news, learning, and independence especially for people who may struggle with traditional media.

BWBF is more than a technology provider. We offer long‑term support, including guidance, device repairs or replacements, and a personal, human approach. Our values centre on accessibility, dignity, inclusion, and connection, ensuring that everyone living with sight loss can continue to engage with the world through the power of audio
