  • About Us

    The mission of the Center for Conflict Resolution is to foster peace building through the teaching and training of both conflict analysis techniques and conflict process skills. This requires the careful study of conflict process dynamics, introspection and practice all of which prepares an individual to effectively promote and foster nonviolent, collaborative and peaceful ways to resolve conflicts.

    In pursuit of this mission the Center is engaged in:

    • Developing a “teaching hospital” model that emphasizes student centered learning via our teaching team, practice team and research team.
    • Teaching, through the Salisbury University Conflict Analysis and Dispute Resolution program, the analysis of root causes of conflict and effective techniques of conflict prevention and intervention.
    • Providing a variety of training opportunities for practitioners.
    • Developing flexible conflict prevention and conflict management programs that are applicable in a multitude of settings.
    • Designing and implementing various on-campus programs including a peer mediation program and the student conflict resolution club.
    • Supporting basic and applied research in the field of dispute resolution.
    • Maintaining numerous conflict prevention and education initiatives and activities in the local community.
    • Working in partnership with local, regional, statewide, national and international organizations to effectively address conflict.
    • Nurturing student practice anywhere in the world.
    • Bringing pioneering individuals in the field of conflict resolution to Salisbury creating a forum to discuss a variety of current issues in the field of conflict resolution.

    The Center is comprised of four distinct components:

    • Community Team
      • Community Mediation Initiative, Community Training Programs, etc.
    • Education Team
      • CADR major and minor at Salisbury University, and other Student based Programs.
    • Practice Team
      • A team of seasoned conflict intervention practitioners (worked in over 50 countries to date)
    • Research Team
      • Have conducted major evaluation research for: U.S. EEOC, the State of Maryland, and the State of California
