  • About Us

The Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development (CNHED) is a dynamic, member-driven association whose mission is to foster just and equitable community development solutions to address the needs and aspirations of low- and moderate- income District residents by convening, advocating, and educating diverse stakeholders. Started in 2000 with the merger of two predecessor organizations, CNHED now has 140 organizational members representing a broad spectrum of entities including nonprofit and for-profit affordable housing developers, housing counseling and service agencies, workforce and business development entities, lenders, intermediaries, and government agencies. Through the power of convening diverse stakeholders, CNHED advances effective advocacy, public education, capacity building, research, and information sharing.

CNHED’s strategic plan for 2016–2018 combines affordable housing and economic development initiatives under an “Equitable Communities” platform and mandates a focus on racial, economic and social justice. The platform gives CNHED an opportunity to deepen the reach and amplify the impact of our highly successful Housing For All Campaign. Under Equitable Communities, CNHED is employing a variety of mechanisms to broaden the impact of its historic wins for the whole continuum of affordable housing by expanding complementary efforts to increase individual and family income through workforce development, small business advocacy and technical assistance, and neighborhood-based commercial corridors.
