Neighborhood Food Project

  • Mission

The Neighborhood Food Project (NFP) is a national organization that helps communities start and sustain successful neighborhood-based food projects, giving local leaders the guidance, tools, and knowledge to keep their food banks and pantries reliably stocked. Our mission is to spread the Neighborhood Food Project model to communities across the country, so that neighbors can come together to support those in need.

    About Us

Vision. A country where neighborhoods everywhere sustain their local food pantries through simple, recurring, community-led giving — turning food collection from a sporadic event into a lasting community tradition.

Values. These principles define how NFP works, and they don't change across the three years:

    • Local ownership. Every Food Project is independently run, locally funded, and community-driven. NFP enables and supports; it never operates or controls.
    • Relationship-based support. Mentorship and human guidance are the most important factor in a project's success, and the heart of what NFP offers.
    • Simple and replicable. The model stays intentionally low-cost and easy to start, so any community can adopt it.
    • Consistency over intensity. Recurring, predictable giving serves pantries better than one-time drives.
    • Stronger together. A connected network — peer learning, shared tools, shared knowledge — makes every project more resilient.
