About Us

Zera Bolivia is an education nonprofit founded in 2013 which seeks to develop self-knowledge, emotional intelligence and critical thinking among children, parents and educators. Zera Bolivia’s work focuses on non-formal education with a strong emphasis on developing skills that help individuals build resilience, cultivate compassion and journey towards self-fulfillment. At Zera Bolivia, we believe that empowering children goes a long way towards achieving transformative change for this generation and the next. We help children take ownership of their education, acknowledge their potential and develop their skills without ever imposing pre-conceived outcomes and solutions.

Zera Bolivia identifies as an anti-racist organization. We actively fight for an inclusive society, where all children can thrive regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, health and socio-economic conditions. Our programs strive to deconstruct and address the root-causes of discriminatory behaviors while building resilience and fostering meaningful connections among all children. At the core of Zera Bolivia’s approach is the belief that every child deserves to be treated as a unique individual—with a name, a story, a reality and a complex world that he or she is part of.

Zera Bolivia’s main activities consist in:

  • Providing high-quality educational material and resources to Bolivian children and teenagers, especially those who have little to no access to education.
  • Organizing workshops for children, teenagers and adults.
  • Providing training courses for educators.
  • Creating a space for debate and reflection around education theories, cultural heritage and transformative social change.

Zera Bolivia’s flagship programs are implemented in state- and city-run education centers in close partnership with governments. To date, Zera Bolivia’s innovative trainings have benefited more than 12,000 children in public schools, children’s hospitals and women’s prisons across the country, through a diverse portfolio of projects and a wide range of partners.

Zera Bolivia builds on a solid network of 250 educators and 150 volunteers who contribute their time and passion to the organization’s cause. Our team is constantly growing and exploring new avenues.
