About Us

The American Immigration Council was established in 1987 as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit educational, charitable organization. The Council is dedicated to changing how Americans think and act towards immigrants and to advancing fundamental fairness and due process under the law for immigrants.

Working closely with leading immigration experts throughout the country, the Council has established four core program areas: the Legal Action Center, Immigration Policy Center, International Exchange Center and Community Education Center.

In addition to these four core areas, the Council conducts many other activities, including an Annual Gala, three regional Immigrant Achievement Awards in Washington, DC, Chicago and New York City, and a national Creative Writing Contest.
