  • About Us

MFFC is a health and wellness organization founded in 2006 with a mission of “bringing together Mattapan residents, organizations and others to work on improving the food and physical activity environments in Mattapan.” We are a largely volunteer based organization with 7 working board + 4 staff members that focus on:

    • Food access (Mattapan Square Farmers Market, overseeing two Summer Eats programs, supporting two community gardens, and cooking classes.
    • Physical activity (bike education and biking riding events, our Walking Challenge, and Mattapan Moving For Life event)
    • Youth development (a group of 8 youth called the Vigorous Youth who support the organization and lead activities of their own)
    • Built environment utilizing our parks, gardens, and rivers for health and wellness activities
    • and community empowerment (convening public meetings, employing community residents and supporting them on community led projects)

About 100 volunteers a year are needed to support our organizations work. Mattapan is made up of 79% residents from Caribbean descent and identify as African American. MFFC serves all ages. MFFC’s working board + staff reflects the Mattapan community.
