Sunrise Cafe New Haven

About Us

Sunrise Cafe has been serving breakfast without charge to New Haven’s unhoused and food insecure since 2015. Each weekday morning, the Cafe welcomes 80 - 100+ guests to the undercroft of St. Paul and St. James, near Wooster Square and three blocks south of the New Haven Green, with white tablecloths, flowers and a fresh, warm, nutritious, home-cooked breakfast.

Sunrise bridges the inequalities that separate us from one another. Guests, staff and volunteers (many are regulars) get to know one another and often greet each other outside of the Cafe.

Sunrise Cafe is built on trust, mutual respect, and the rapport established between the staff, volunteer servers and our guests. Sunrise is a community center, a place where friends gather each weekday morning with just two rules – no drugs on the premises and no arguments.
