Ohio Council of Community Schools
The Ohio Council of Community Schools (OCCS) is a not-for-profit organization designated by the University of Toledo Board of Trustees to oversee the legal compliance and performance of its portfolio throughout the state of Ohio. As a sponsor of community schools, we are a student-centered organization advocating excellence in education through strategic partnerships.
Team commitment to our organization and our partners is very high. We put great importance on educational excellence, cohesion, and morale. Our success is defined in terms of sensitivity and service to our schools and school boards of directors, school operators, and other partners. We are committed to continuing educational advancements based on consistency and innovation.
At OCCS, we believe that the individual child must come first, that he or she must remain a school's top priority. Educating our children is important to us all because today's students are tomorrow's workers and leaders. Their success is our future. That is why OCCS embraces each child in the community. And because we understand that every child learns in their own way, we help our schools to offer what may be the first – and perhaps only – opportunity for many families to choose the right school for their children.
Many students thrive with special attention and alternative teaching methods employed by schools under our direction and oversight. The Ohio Council of Community Schools is dedicated to providing assistance for each of its schools in the areas of best-practice instruction methods and teaching practices, research-based curriculum, instruction and assessment models, advanced and emerging technologies, leadership development, and strategies to inspire parental involvement in the schools.
