LSSM is the largest faith-based non-profit human service organization in the state. Lutheran Social Services of Michigan spans the Lower Peninsula with more than 70 programs in 43 cities. These include foster care, adoption, subsidized housing, nursing homes, community centers and services to the homeless, refugees, and persons with developmental disabilities. Lutheran Social Services of Michigan in Lansing is looking for committed community members to become mentors for our refugee foster care youth. These refugee you have fled their home countries due to war, persuction or violence and have arrived in the United States without family members to take care of them. We place these youth in foster care across the state of Michigan. The role of the mentor is to build a relationship of unconditional caring and friendship.
