COVID Bail Out NYC

About Us

While COVID-19 rates have dropped in New York City, the virus is still raging on Rikers. At the same time, the state is using the pandemic as a pretext to send more people to NYC jails for longer, and to ramp up criminalization of the city's Black and brown communities. Meanwhile, violence in the city jails is rising. This moment calls on us to be our own protectors.

Nearly 3,000 people are in NYC jails right now, simply because they can't afford to pay bail. By paying bail - with your help - we can get these people free, out of the clutches of the state and into the safety of communities. Each time we do this, we honor our enslaved ancestors, who organized and pooled their resources to buy each other's freedom.

How do we do it? We mobilize a whole village of people just like you committed to #FreeThemAll. It takes dedicated lawyers and family/friends to request we pay bail. People to donate funds to cover bail and post-release support. A committed volunteer team to work with the people inside, their lawyers, family, social workers, friends to prepare them for release. More volunteers to travel to bail windows to post bail. Volunteer notary publics. And a beautiful crew of skilled community organizers to corral support for folks after they are released.
