Metanoia

Who are we?

Metanoia is an established leader in community development in the Charleston region. We pursue an innovative model to amplify opportunities for a thriving community with families in the Chicora-Cherokee Neighborhood and historically Black neighborhoods in North Charleston. We support a movement that champions co-creating a thriving neighborhood as a stable foundation for sustaining and nurturing the community’s unique gifts and talents. 

Why work for Metanoia?

We value every family as a critical community partner. As such, Metanoia partners with families in their journey to build happy, secure futures. For example, our after-school and summer programs are not free to parents. However, we do require that all parents or families invest four hours of community participation each month.

By creating systems of exchange, we create a sense of pride and ownership that community members feel toward our collective work. The highest compliment paid to us is when children, families and residents describe Metanoia's work as “we” are doing collectively (rather than what “they” are doing to the community).
