About Us

New York Intern Program is a service-learning program for young adults to strengthen and deepen their spiritual lives and vocational development through a year of urban service and intentional living. Each year, five recent college graduates come to NYIP from the end of August through mid-August the following year to work in direct-care positions at some of New York City's most innovative and caring agencies and churches. Interns live in intentional community at a historic, diverse and welcoming Harlem church: St. Mary's Manhattanville and participate in the worship life and social action happening in and around this vibrant faith communities.

Throughout the year, interns receive ongoing support and formation facilitated by St. Mary's leadership and NYIP staff. NYIP believes God can be found in and through relationships. We are committed to social justice and urban ministries. NYIP exposes young adults to the complexities of systemic injustice while empowering them to explore and enact faith-filled responses. Our interns discern and clarify their future vocations in preparation for becoming leaders in their chosen fields.

We are open to young adults of all backgrounds and religions, including no religion. NYIP offers a year of immersion in diverse faith community as an opportunity to learn about deepening and sustaining one's faith and hope while going deep with clarifying one's own values.
