San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity
Founded in 1990 as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity (SGVHFH) builds, renovates, and repairs affordable housing for low-income families in the San Gabriel Valley. SGVHFH seeks to eliminate substandard housing and living conditions by partnering with businesses, cities, citizen donors, foundations, eligible homeowners and volunteers from all walks of life. Through these partnerships SGVHFH helps create a better, permanent environment for low-income families. We strive to build continuously to provide the opportunity for families to live in a decent and safe house in a community where they can live, work and grow.
Habitat’s work is not a handout, but rather a hand up. Current SGV Habitat programs include: Habitat Homeownership, Habitat’s most recognized program offering families in poverty the opportunity for healthy, stable housing and homeownership, and Brush With Kindness, assisting low-income homeowners with exterior maintenance of their homes. Our affiliate operates two builder surplus ReStores in Pasadena and Azusa promoting recycling and reuse in the community. SGVHFH serves 31 communities in northeastern Los Angeles County. In our 21-year history, SGVHFH has built 54 new homes and completed nine exterior home repairs through the new Brush With Kindness program launched in October 2010, thus providing safe, decent, affordable shelter to over 300 men, women and children.
