Pillars is a social investment fund that offers forward looking Americans the opportunity to build a more just society. We develop programs that elevate and amplify the talents and leadership of American Muslims at a time when our country needs a way to celebrate singular identities within a shared national narrative.
We create, expand and invest in opportunities for American Muslims to engage in civil society, the media and in the realm of public discourse through our funding programs, leadership development platforms, strategic partnerships and public campaigns.
Pillars is at an exciting time in its growth. It was founded in 2010 as a Donor Advised Fund at the Chicago Community Trust. Over 5 years, Pillars has invested more than $1.6M into the American Muslim nonprofit sector making it one of the largest funders in this space. In 2016, with support from the Ford Foundation, Kellogg Foundation and Open Society Foundations, Pillars officially launched as an independent organization. Backed by a network of highly committed individual donors and the country’s premier philanthropic institutions, Pillars has grown to become a leading voice in the American Muslim community.
