California State Parks- Snowy Plover Guardian Program

  • About Us

The goal of program is to encourage public stewardship of coastal ecosystems and to promote responsible recreation practices that protect native species, especially the Western Snowy Plover, a Federally Threatened shore bird that nests and overwinters on our beaches. Join our team of tabling and beach-roaming Plover Guardians and make a difference for this special habitat. Volunteer work is found on all our sandy state beaches from Zmudowski State Beach to Carmel River State Beach, with opportunities to join for events such as Earth Day events and the Festival of Birds.

Just want up-to-date information on Western Snowy Plovers? Email us to join our monthly plover-focused newsletter and notifications for upcoming events.

The Snowy Plover Guardians is a partnership with Monterey Audubon Society and California State Parks.
