About Us

The Workforce Housing Association of Truckee-Tahoe (WHATT) works in partnership with residents, community groups, and local government in the creation and preservation of workforce housing in the Truckee / North Lake Tahoe area. WHATT was founded in September 2002 as a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization by a coalition of employers and associations with a focus on bringing awareness to the need for more workforce housing and serving as an advocate for policies and projects that would result in the expansion of affordable workforce housing. In 2005, with financial support from the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association (NLTRA), Placer County, and the Town of Truckee, WHATT created a comprehensive business plan, which has served as a road map for creating a regional housing organization. WHATT has grown from being an advocacy and educational organization to become the community’s development partner, community outreach coordinator, and long-term steward of affordable housing resources. WHATT is the unifying force in its community, among the area’s jurisdictions, employers, developers, and clients to provide leadership for and development of affordable housing for our region’s workforce. WHATT accomplishes its mission by focusing on advocacy, education and outreach, housing services, and partnering with developers in the creation of housing at all levels of affordability.
