About Us

Founded in 2002, Dress for Success Washington, DC is a nonprofit providing professional clothing, mentoring programs, and career guidance and support to women who are making the transition from unemployment or under-employment to being gainfully employed.

Most of the women we serve are entering the workforce after a long period of unemployment due to the economic downturn. More than 70% are single mothers referred to us from more than 160 Washington, DC metropolitan area social service agencies and friends. We serve women from the entire Metro DC area.

Our programs include:

The Suiting Program which provides women with free professional clothing, accessories, and personal care products for job interviews and their first week of employment;

The Career Center which is staffed by volunteers who assist women who are in need of computer training, Internet access, resume writing skills, interview techniques, and a host of other job search tools; and

The Professional Women's Group which provides workshops for the women who are seeking, and/or have obtained employment, and are in need of extra support in the areas of managing conflict, financial literacy, coping with change, enhanced communications skills, and leadership.

We have a small staff and a host of talented and dedicated volunteers!
