SIA's mission is to prepare students for careers and leadership positions in the private and public sectors of an increasingly interdependent world. Our students acquire a strong knowledge base and the competencies crucial to a successful career in a wide range of international affairs positions. Our interdisciplinary program draws extensively upon the intellectual resources available to Penn State as a top 50 global research university.
The SIA currently has nine concentrations in which students may specialize, or students may create their own:

- Humanitarian and Human Rights
- Environment and Resources
- International Education
- Middle Eastern Studies
- International Cyber Security
- International Energy Policy
