Jefferson Houses - Jobs Plus/Hostos Community College

Hostos Community College is launching Jobs-Plus, an innovative and proven employment program for public housing residents, in Jefferson Houses this Fall. Jobs-Plus utilizes a bold saturation strategy that will seek to provide customized services and support to all working-age residents of Jefferson Houses to help residents increase their earnings and reach their personal employment goals. Jobs-Plus’ unique approach has three main components: employment-related services, financial incentives that allow residents to keep more of their earnings, and community support for work defined as activities that promote neighbor-to-neighbor support for work.. MDRC, a social policy research organization, has spent nearly a decade developing and evaluating Jobs-Plus in 6 different cities across the country. Its research found that, where the program was well implemented, Jobs-Plus helped residents significantly increase their earnings. Jefferson Houses Jobs-Plus will be the first replication since MDRC’s national demonstration project and the first Jobs-Plus program in New York City.
